I am trying to collate a list of questions that I could ask when I am writing characters, a questionnaire to complete before embarking on any character. I think writing needs to be more organized than what I have been doing. I have often wondered how to structure my writing so that I do things in a linear way because random, haphazard, unorganized does not work with me. So here goes :
- What is the name of your character?
- What does he look like?
- How does he dress?
- What does he do for a living?
- How old is he?
- Describe his living quarters?
- Who are his friends?
- What would you find in his wallet?
- Describe his personality? His habits, his idiosyncrasies?
- How does he react when he gets angry?
- Is he expressive or introverted?
- Describe his childhood?
- Did he have siblings?
- How many were there?
- What was his relationship with them?
- Who were his parents?
- What was his relationship with them?
- Who was he closest to, his mother or father?
- Did his parents stay together or did they get separated?
- How did that impact his life growing up?
- What are his secrets?
- What was his school like? Was he good at studies? Sports? Did he have a lot friends? What clique did he fall into?
- What is her biggest fear? Who has she told this to? Who would she never tell this to? Why?
- Who does she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he wish he were closest to?
There are plenty of other questions out there but I will be updating this list frequently. For further reference please refer to:
