Character Questionaire

I am trying to collate a list of questions that I could ask when I am writing characters, a questionnaire to complete before embarking on any character. I think writing needs to be more organized than what I have been doing. I have often wondered how to structure my writing so that I do things in a linear way because random, haphazard, unorganized does not work with me. So here goes :

  1. What is the name of your character?
  2. What does he look like?
  3. How does he dress?
  4. What does he do for a living?
  5. How old is he?
  6. Describe his living quarters?
  7. Who are his friends?
  8. What would you find in his wallet?
  9. Describe his personality? His habits, his idiosyncrasies?
  10. How does he react when he gets angry?
  11. Is he expressive or introverted?
  12. Describe his childhood?
  13. Did he have siblings?
  14. How many were there?
  15. What was his relationship with them?
  16. Who were his parents?
  17. What was his relationship with them?
  18. Who was he closest to, his mother or father?
  19. Did his parents stay together or did they get separated?
  20. How did that impact his life growing up?
  21. What are his secrets?
  22. What was his school like?  Was he good at studies? Sports? Did he have a lot friends? What clique did he fall into?
  23. What is her biggest fear? Who has she told this to? Who would she never tell this to? Why?
  24. Who does she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he wish he were closest to?
There are plenty of other questions out there but I will be updating this list frequently. For further reference please refer to:

Having money.

Imagine having plenty of money. The kind of riches that you see the Ambanis and the Birlas have. Think about that. And then think how you can change the world with it. Imagine being involved in a million humanitarian projects. Imagine your money going into developing roads and providing free water and electricity. Imagine your money being used to build parks and plant trees. So money can lead to happiness. It only needs to be used in the right way.

So what would I do if I have an enormous amount of money? I guess I don't know for sure. But if I had money, the first thing I would do was to quit my job and go on a world tour with my parents. Before that, I would hire a wealth management group who would invest my money for me. After I return from my vacation, I would get a good flat in the best part of town and have it fully furnished and fitted with the best appliances. I would hire servants for cooking, cleaning, washing, and a housekeeper for managing the servants, so that my mother could have plenty of free time.

I am going to produce films. I am going to build a production company that only produces small or medium budget films from budding filmmakers and the only criteria for the film would be that the film has to be interesting and exciting. I would also intern with filmmakers and pick their brains on how they make their movies. After that I am going to make my own movies.

Next I am going to start my own company. I haven't really decided what it will sell but I am looking at restaurant business or bakery or sweet meat shop franchise.

Okay the last few paragraphs got really boring. I realized that I did not desperately want those things. I mean think about it, if I had money, why would I start a new company. I would just roam around the world, spend Christmas in New York, play with the snow, watch the holiday windows displays on shops. I just found a site which has all the information on what to do on Christmas eve in New York.

Anyway as I was saying. I would travel the world, have some fun, buy a really large place in a decent location in Kolkata, probably go into the movie business since I won't have to desperately earn money or anything. Also I can be a dreamer like I am now and spend my days doing anything I like. I would read books all day, listen to this american life, watch movies. I would probably join a political party or something. Do some volunteer work. Spend some money build a shelter for the poor old beggars on the street
and state of the mental rehabilitation centres for mentally disabled poor folks. I would probably invest my money wisely.
